The DJHS GirlUp had a very successful year. Throughout the year, this club focused on women’s mental health as its central issue and organized a discussion panel on women’s issues. This panel was held on April 23rd at the Muirfield Country Club. Speakers Crystal Lett, Dr. Jackie Blount, Dr. Arpana Inman, and Dr. Bartle-Haring educated attendees on women’s issues while the Girl Up Club collected donations to benefit the Malala Fund. This event raised $406 to be donated to this worthy cause. The group applied for and received a $500 grant from the GirlUp Hero Project Award to make this event possible.
GirlUp is a campaign by the United Nations dedicated to protecting the rights, safety, and education of girls around the world. GirlUp has thousands of clubs globally, and Jerome’s chapter was founded in 2018 by Caroline Gross, who carried it over from the chapter she founded at Grizzell.
