Scioto HS Repairs Underway
On Friday, an issue with an underground sewage pipe at Scioto high school was reported to the district’s Operations team. Work to address the problem began immediately, with commercial plumbing contractors arriving Friday afternoon. After a number of exploratory tests, it was determined that a main sewer line situated twelve-feet under the building had failed.
In order to safely and effectively repair the pipe, a significant amount of digging and reconstruction is required. While crews have been working around the clock since Friday, additional time is needed to fix the issue entirely.
Student learning remains a priority. As such, Operations has organized the following measures so that the building can remain open while repairs are taking place.
Multiple portable restroom trailers are being delivered to Scioto High School today. These trailers are similar to the ones used at large-scale events. They have fans, heat, lights, and individual stalls. ADA-compliant portable restroom facilities and handwashing stations are also being delivered. Portable restrooms and hand-washing stations will be placed in safe and secure locations that are easily accessible by students and staff.
Additional security will be on-site to help staff monitor areas around portable facilities.
Sodexo, our food services provider, will be using kitchens at nearby buildings to prepare quality grab-and-go breakfast and lunch options for students. Students can elect to pack their lunch as well.
A professional restoration firm and a cleaning firm have been scheduled to support additional cleaning and sanitizing throughout the building and in portable facilities.
Fortunately, drinking water sourced from the fountains and bottle-filling stations is unaffected at this time, so both will be open for use as usual.
For athletics and clubs: Tuesday evening’s boys basketball games have been moved to Westland High School. Athletic practices will resume normal schedules beginning Tuesday after school. Please watch for updates from the athletic department regarding home athletic events later this week. Clubs should contact their advisor(s) for any schedule changes.
Please know that we are working to fix the issue swiftly so that we can return to normal operations as soon as possible. An update will be provided to Scioto families later this week with follow-up details.
