District Purchases Nearly 100 acres
Dublin City Schools recently purchased nearly 100 acres of land at the corner of Mitchell-Dewitt Road and Industrial Parkway.
“We believe this is the single largest land purchase, a total of 97.86 acres across three adjacent parcels, in Dublin City Schools history,” Chief Operating Officer Jeff Stark said.
The land was purchased from the Scott Family. The District purchased the land within fair market value for approximately $6.7 million.
The land was purchased with contingency and savings from the construction of Abraham Depp and Hopewell elementaries and Eversole Run Middle School. The construction of those buildings were paid through bonds issued from the authority given by voter approval of the November 2018 No New Millage bond levy. These bonds and the newly issued bonds for the Jerome High School addition had a credit rating of AAA by S&P Global, which is the highest credit rating possible.
“We are happy that we were able to come to an agreement to purchase the land from the Scott Family,” Superintendent Dr. John Marschhausen said. “Having this land for the District will help our students and families at some point in the future.”
Dublin City Schools purchased this land to keep it in waiting should we need to build more schools due to our enrollment growth. The District does not have any timeline for any additional buildings being needed, but it has this land should it be needed. Dublin City Schools owned the Bright Road land for approximately 30 years before it became the site for Hopewell Elementary School, which opened in 2020.
