Eversole Run Eighth Graders Work on Solutions to Help Environment
The eighth graders at Eversole Run Middle School have been hard at work with an interdisciplinary, cross-curricular project. The task for each of the students was to select an environmental issue in Columbus or Dublin and create a solution to help solve that issue. The project integrated science, math, english language arts and social studies into one project.
The students worked in groups of four and tackled topics such as composting, ticks and recycling. They had two weeks to work on their projects.
Throughout the process, the students had the opportunity to meet with local experts. Thanks to Scott Moncrief, City Horticulturist for the City of Dublin, and Emily Goliver and Shannon Maurer, Volunteer Coordinators for the City of Dublin for meeting with our students to help them along with their projects.
The Jerome Speech and Debate Club students also helped out the Eversole Run eighth graders and helped train them in timing, public speaking and communication skills.
Their two-week project culminated on May 20. All of the students participated in a gallery hop presentation experience where they presented their solutions to an environmental issue using immersive techniques. Additionally, select students presented their solutions to a "Shark Board" of community members in the afternoon.
