Dublin City Schools Welcomes New Leadership Team Members
I continue to be excited to begin my tenure with Dublin City Schools on May 1. I have some great news to share with you this morning. Pending Board approval on April 26. I am excited to welcome Dr. Bennyce Hamilton, Director of Diversity and Equity, Dr. Tonya Bailey, Executive Director of Teaching and Learning, and Mrs. Jennifer Schwanke, Deputy Superintendent.
These individuals will play key roles on our administrative team and will be integral parts of shaping the future of our District going forward. I cannot wait to get started here in Dublin City Schools and I look forward to meeting each of you in the coming days, weeks, and months. Please take a moment to join me in welcoming our new leaders. Dr. Bennyce Hamilton-Director of Diversity and Equity
Dr. Bennyce Hamilton has been named the District’s Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. She will officially begin her position on June 1, but will also be working on some transition days during the month of May. Dr. Hamilton comes to Dublin City Schools with a wealth of experience in the field of diversity. She has most recently served as the Regional Deputy Title IX Coordinator and Regional Director of Diversity and Multicultural Services for Miami University and its regional campuses, as well as an adjunct professor.
In that role, she has been responsible for collaborating with the department of Academic Affairs to address issues of recruitment and retention, partnered with regional faculty and staff to present diversity training, served as an advisor to the Native American Student Association and Dream Keepers student organization, and partnered with local high schools, community colleges and area businesses to establish support services.
Prior to Miami University, Dr. Hamilton served as the Director of Multicultural Affairs at Wilmington College from 2012 to 2015 where she coordinated multicultural campus/community wide programming, including the recruitment of teachers from diverse backgrounds. During her time at Wilmington College, she developed and taught an honors course, taught first aid and CPR and evaluated student performance.
Before her time at Wilmington, she served as an adjunct professor, a firefighter/paramedic, and an English teacher. She has an Ed.D degree from the University of Cincinnati with a focus on reflexive culturally relevant pedagogical classroom practices. She also has an M.Ed, in secondary education, and a B.S. in Psychology from Kentucky State University. She is a member of the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education, Ohio Council of Teachers of English Language Arts, and the Great Cincinnati Consortium of Colleges and Universities.
Dr. Tonya Bailey-Executive Director of Learning and Teaching
Dr. Bailey comes to Dublin City Schools from Reynoldsburg City Schools where she has been the principal of Encore Academy for high school students since 2018. She will officially begin her position on Aug. 1, but will also be working on some transition days during the month of May. An experienced administrator and educator, she has worn many hats during her career. She has also served as the Principal of Columbus Africentric Early College, assistant principal at Sandusky High School, English teacher at Orange High School in Pepper Pike, middle school English teacher at Shaker Heights Middle School and an English teacher at John F. Kennedy High School in Cleveland.
During her leadership roles, she has been responsible for implementing culturally responsive teaching practices, provided teachers with instructional strategies around social and emotional learning, analyzed student data to support growth and development of learning, provided teachers with support and implementation of Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies and much more.
Dr. Bailey holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Ashland University, a Master of Education Administration from Ashland University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Cheyney University in Cheyney, Pennsylvania. She is a member of the Ohio Association of Secondary Administrators, the National Association of Secondary Administrators, and the National Alliance of Black School Educators.
Jennifer Schwanke-Deputy Superintendent
Mrs. Schwanke, the District’s next Deputy Superintendent, has a long history of service to Dublin City Schools. She has been the Principal of Indian Run Elementary since 2015, as the Scottish Corners Principal, and assistant principal at both Sells and Karrer Middle Schools. Prior to entering administration, she was a seventh grade language arts teacher at Karrer, Sells, and Triway Junior High.
Her skill set includes continuous improvement, data and assessment, staff professional development, instructional leadership, student support and special education, school law, curriculum implementation, mission, vision and goal setting, written communications, parent and community engagement and literacy development support. She is an experienced public speaker, delivering presentations to audiences of many organizations during her career.
A published author of two books, Mrs. Schwanke is also a contributing writer to many educational publications. She has been a graduate instructor of school law, Community/School Partnerships and Curriculum Development for Instruction with Miami University since 2015.
She holds an Educational Administration license from Ashland University, a Master of Arts in Secondary Education from the University of Akron, and a Bachelor of Arts in English from Allegheny College.
