Dr. Hamilton to return to Miami University
Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Dr. Bennyce Hamilton has announced she will resign from Dublin City Schools effective Dec. 17 to return to Miami University.
“We are saddened to see Dr. Hamilton leave our Dublin City Schools family,” said Superintendent Dr. John Marschhausen. “ We will miss her passion, positive approach to diversity work, and leadership in our community. We wish Bennyce joy and happiness.”
Dublin City Schools has an intentional focus on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity (DEI) to ensure that every student has access to elite educational opportunities, is valued in every classroom and space in our district, and is prepared for future success. This is a simple definition of these terms we believe we can agree upon as a community. We are aware the words” diversity,” “equity,” and “inclusivity” have become politicized but nevertheless this important work will continue.
“This is a tremendous place to live and work and there is great opportunity here to support the diverse student body,” Dr. Hamilton said. “I wish all of the students and parents well as they continue working toward a better Dublin City Schools.”
One of the District’s action steps moving forward has already begun and that is the formation of a Parent Diversity Committee and the District is currently taking applications. The committee will meet a few times each year and will report out annually to the Board of Education.
“The district’s leadership team will reflect on the current situation and evaluate future opportunities in the DEI space. I look forward to working with the Board of Education as we chart a path forward.” Marschhausen said.
Applications will be accepted until winter break and will be reviewed by a team of administrators and two board members. The committee will be demographically and geographically representative of the District.
“I have been a part of this District my entire life,” said Board of Education President Chris Valentine. “I know we are capable of great things when we come together to do what is best for kids and I am confident our community, and our new Board, will do that as we move into 2022.”
