Permanent Improvement portion of levy funds summer projects
In November of 2018, Dublin City Schools voters approved Issue 5, a ballot initiative designed to address the District's rapid enrollment growth, as well as maintenance and upgrades at existing facilities.
The issue included operating funds, bond funds to construct two new elementary schools, a fifth middle school, renovation of the former Central Office into a centralized preschool. Those projects remain on schedule and on budget. Hopewell and Depp elementary schools and the centralized preschool will open in August and the fifth middle school is on track to open in the fall of 2021.
Third component of Issue 5 was the District’s first-ever permanent improvement (PI) levy. This portion of the issue will provide the District with $6-million annually that can only be used for building maintenance and some specific equipment purchases such as school buses.
The first round of projects funded by the District’s PI begins this summer. On May 26, the Board approved an asphalt contractor for the resurfacing of the Bailey Elementary parking lot and a flooring contractor for the replacement of Indian Run Elementary gymnasium floor.
“Our Permanent Improvement funding makes a steady stream of facility-based improvement projects possible,” said Superintendent Dr. Todd Hoadley. “We are grateful for our community’s commitment to keeping our school buildings in the best physical shape possible for our students.”
Other PI funded projects we expect to complete this summer include: roof repairs at Dublin Coffman and Dublin Scioto, bleacher upgrades at all three high schools, backup generators across the District and a district-wide exterior door access control project in July that will help increase safety and security for staff.
The access control project will be a two-year project to provide access controls to all exterior entrances with monitoring, at schools. The first half of this publicly bid project will focus on all the elementary schools - the second half on all the secondary schools. The District anticipates a bid award recommendation will be provided to the Board of Education in July.
