Dublin Jerome named Blue Ribbon school for the second time
Dublin Jerome High School has been named a National Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department of Education for the second time in its history.
“Jerome parents, staff, and students should be extremely proud of this prestigious honor,” said Superintendent Dr. John Marschhausen. “Jerome becomes the first of our schools to earn this honor twice, also achieving this designation in 2010.”
The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. Every year the U.S. Department of Education seeks out and celebrates great American schools, schools demonstrating that all students can achieve to high levels.
Principal Mike Aurin credited his teaching staff, supportive parents, and dedicated students for earning this distinction for the school.
“We are very proud of the learning that goes on here at Jerome,” Aurin said. “We are thrilled and humbled to receive this national recognition for our academic program.”
U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona recognized 325 schools as 2021 National Blue Ribbon Schools. Each state may nominate a set number of public schools based on the number of schools and students in the state. Schools and Districts cannot nominate themselves.
Wyandot Elementary was named a Blue Ribbon school in 2017, Grizzell Middle School in 2009, and Olde Sawmill Elementary and John Sells Middle School received the designation in the 1980s.
