Dear Parent:

On Sunday, May 28th, you will be sharing in a powerful moment with your son or daughter as he or she graduates from Dublin Jerome High School. This year our Commencement Ceremony will be held at the Jerome Schottenstein Center at 4:30p.m. We deeply appreciate what you have done for your child to foster his/her success to this point.

We have enclosed pertinent information about the activities that relate to seniors between now and May 28th. We hope this will aid you in planning your schedule and to ensure that your son or daughter does not miss out on these events.

Important Dates for 2023 DJHS Seniors 

April 4 - 20: Kings Island Senior Trip tickets will be sold for $50 online. See attached flyer and consent form. Tickets must be purchased by April 20th in order to attend.

April 24 - 28: Prom tickets will be sold for $35 per person online. No tickets will be sold at the door.

April 29: Prom will be held on Saturday, April 29th from 8:00 pm to 11:30 pm at The Ohio State University Student Union Ballroom (1739 N. High Street, Columbus 43210). Formal attire. Contact Mrs. Murphy with any questions.

May 10: Senior Awards Program will be held on Wednesday, May 10th at 7:00 pm in the DJHS CPA. The Senior Awards Program is a formal recognition of seniors who have received academic honors, local scholarships, and special awards. Invitations for students and their parents will be mailed home. Dressy casual attire. Contact the DJHS Guidance Office at 614-718-8275 with any questions.

May 19: The Senior Dinner will be held on Friday, May 19th at 6:00 pm in the DJHS Commons. After dinner, there will be entertainment and senior superlatives will be awarded. This is an event for 2023 graduates only. Dressy casual attire. Contact Mrs. Murphy with any questions.

May 23: The Last Day for Seniors and the Kings Island Trip will be on Tuesday, May 23rd. Seniors will need to report to the Auxiliary Gym by 7:30 am and buses will leave DJHS at 8:00 am. Contact Mrs. Murphy with any questions.

May 25: Commencement Ceremony Practice will be on Thursday, May 25th at 10:00 am in the DJHS Aux Gym. This is a MANDATORY practice for all graduates. Students should arrive by 9:30 am to check the seating assignments. School appropriate attire.

May 28: Commencement Ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 28th at 4:30 pm at The Schottenstein Center (555 Borror Drive, Columbus 43210). Graduating seniors should report to the lower level dock area at the Schottenstein Center no later than 3:30 pm. Parents and guests do not need tickets to attend.

Required Attire: cap, gown and tassel; choice of dress/pantsuit/skirt & top or light-colored shirt & tie with dress pants; dress sandals or dress shoes. Hair pins may be helpful to secure caps. Tassels should be worn on the right side prior to commencement.

Attire Not Permitted: tennis shoes, flip flops, flowers/corsages, purses, wearing or attaching anything to the cap or gown.

Parking: Each graduate will receive one parking pass during the Commencement Ceremony Practice. Students have to park in the Gray Lot on the NW corner off of Lane Ave. & Fred Taylor Dr. We encourage graduates to carpool if possible and to allow time for parking. Additional parking is $10 per car and handicapped parking is available. If you have further parking questions, please call the Schottenstein Center at 614-292-3231.

May Date TBD: Baccalaureate is sponsored by the DJHS PTO along with the DSHS & DCHS PTO’s and will be held at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church (7121 Muirfield Dr., Dublin). Baccalaureate is a non-denominational program open to all senior students and their families and is an optional senior event. Dressy casual. Contact Sacha Bonny with any questions.

Attention all senior parents:

The end of the school year is approaching fast and will b here before we know it! In preparation for the Senior Dinner on May 19th, the Senior Cabinet needs your help!

1. 1 Baby picture (jpeg format please)
2. 1 candid picture from either middle school or high school (jpeg format please) (If your picture(s) is printed, feel free to take a picture of them using your cellphone and send it in.)

The Senior Video is part of the program after the Senior Dinner on May 19, so the video is enjoyed by the entire Senior Class during that evening.

Class of 2023 - Kings Island Senior Trip 

Tuesday, May 23, 2023 (Last school day for Seniors) 

Students in the 2023 Senior Class has the option of taking a trip to Kings Island Amusement Park on their last school day, May 23. Students will leave Jerome by charter bus at 8:00 am and return around 9:00 pm. The cost for each student is $50 for a charter bus and park entry. The Senior Class covers any remaining costs. Food costs are not included - KINGS ISLAND IS CASHLESS.

SPECIAL GUIDELINES FOR SIGNING UP FOR KINGS ISLAND:

1. PAY FOR THE KINGS ISLAND TRIP: $50 link to purchase will be posted once it opens.
2. TURN IN PARENT SIGNED PERMISSION FORM between April3-14 to the Jerome Library, Attendance Office, Main Office, or Emerald Main Desk during the school day. THE PERMISSION FORM IS IN YOUR EMAIL OR PICK ONE UP IN THE ATTENDANCE OR MAIN OFFICE.
3. Food costs are not included. KINGS ISLAND IS CASHLESS and only accepts credit cards, debit cards, ApplePay, GooglePay. If you do not have a card, there are Cash to Card kiosks that can transfer cash to a card without fees.

ALL SENIORS MUST TURN IN PERMISSION FORM AND PAY ONLINE NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, APRIL 14

NO REFUNDS

Important: May 23 is a school day for seniors. Any senior who does NOT attend the Kings Island trip must be in school the entire school day.

Any member of the Class of 2023 who has a relative that is an employee of DCS (full or part-time only, no substitutes or supplementals) may invite that relative to hand them their diploma at the Dublin Jerome Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, May 28th at 4:30 pm at The Schottenstein Center.

We ask any senior who wishes to take advantage of this unique opportunity to complete THIS FORM and also have the DCS employee sign an acceptance of the invitation. The form must be filled out completely with current contact information so that we can provide the presenter with all pertinent instructions.

Family Guide to Graduation at the Schottenstein Center

The Schottenstein Center is very pleased to welcome graduates, families, and friends to this year’s ceremony! Please take time to review this information so that we can help your graduate have the best possible experience on this exciting day. Ticketing

Tickets are not required for the 2023 high school graduation ceremonies taking place inside the Schottenstein Center.

Facility Entrance

Please plan to arrive at the venue much earlier than you normally would in order to reduce congestion and wait times. All guests will pass through a metal detector screening upon entry. If you wait until shortly before the ceremony to enter, you will miss part of the event. Doors for each ceremony will open approximately 60 minutes prior to the start time.

Accessible / Disability Seating

Accessible/disabled seating is available on the entry level (100) and terrace levels (300). The seating area is level with the exterior walkways and concourses and involves no stairs. Disability seating is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. We ask families to try to limit themselves to one companion with the guest in need so that we may accommodate others. There is an ample amount of traditional seating adjacent to the handicap accessible platforms that the rest of your party could take advantage of.

Mask Policy & COVID Safety

Effective March 11, 2022 – masks are now optional in most settings on Ohio States campuses, including inside the Schottenstein Center. Guests are not required to show any proof of negative tests or vaccinations. University policies pertaining to masks or other health and safety protocols are subject to change.

Post-Ceremony Meet Up

Families should make plans to meet up with their graduating students at a designated location outside of the arena or off-campus. There are often multiple ceremonies being held back to back inside the arena.

No Bag Policy

Bags or purses of any size are NOT permitted in the Schottenstein Center. Wallets and wristlets no larger than 5”x8”x1” are permitted. Guests entering with medical, dietary, or childcare needs will enter through one dedicated lane available at each entrance to have their items inspected. One bag per person will be permitted for those with medical, dietary or childcare needs, such as: medications, medical equipment & supplies, single serving snack for medical needs, diapers, formula, baby food, baby bottles, breast pump, etc.

All items and persons entering the Schottenstein Center are subject to security screening and inspection. All guests will enter through a walk-through magnetometer.

Gifts

Wrapped packages/gifts, balloons, and bags are not permitted in the arena and will be stopped during the security inspection process at the gates. Please be sure to exchange gifts at home!

Permitted Items

• Binoculars (without cases)
• Body worn baby carriers
• Bottles that are clear, plastic, and empty
• Cameras and video recording devices
• Coats & jackets (worn or carried)
• Mobility devices (such as canes, crutches, walkers, rollators, wheelchairs, scooters)
• Wallets, wristlets, or clutches no larger than 5x8x1”
• One bag per person will be permitted for those with medical, dietary or childcare needs, such as: medications, medical equipment & supplies, single serving snack for medical needs, diapers, formula, baby food, baby bottles, breast pump, etc.

Prohibited Items / Security Screening

Guests are subject to inspection of person, parcels, bags, and clothing capable of concealing prohibited items. Guests may refuse inspections but management reserves the right to refuse entry. Guests that are found at screening or inside the arena with prohibited items are subject to Ohio Law and/or ejection from the arena. Prohibited items may be confiscated. Guests will be asked to comply with all screenings, i.e. removal of hats, emptying of metal from pockets and entry through metal detectors.

Other prohibited items include:

• All bags (including but not limited to backpacks, fanny packs, purses, string or ‘cinch’ bags, messenger bags, crossbody bags, camera bags, briefcases, grocery bags, roll bags, binocular cases, duffle bags or any other bags)
• Banners, flags, posters, and signs that interfere with the viewing of other guests
• Clothing with profane, inappropriate or abusive language
• Containers (common examples include but are not limited to hard-sided coolers, soft pack coolers, ice chests, picnic baskets, cans, heavy plastic or glass bottles, thermoses)
• Confetti, streamers, glitter, balloons
• Firearms. Weapons are not permitted in the arena/stadium. Possession of a firearm or weapon is strictly forbidden. Possession of a weapon will result in immediate confiscation, ejection and/or possible arrest. Off-duty law enforcement: click here for concealed-carry policy
• Fireworks or explosives
• Food and beverages
• Illegal drugs
• Inflatables (balls, balloons, etc.)
• Markers or Paint
• Monopods and tripods
• Noisemaking devices (common examples include but are not limited to whistles, air horns, bull horns, blow horns, musical instruments, kazoos, bugles, cow bells, thunder sticks, sirens, milk jugs with rocks or coins, and stereos)
• Sticks, Poles, Pipes or Selfie sticks
• Weapons or items that mimic weapons, including but not limited to: (aerosol cans, mace, pepper spray, lighters, matches, firearms, including CCW permit holders, fireworks, pocket knives, knives, spiked bracelets, brass knuckles, martial arts weapons, stun guns, squirt guns, super soakers and chains) or any item deemed dangerous or inappropriate.
• Wrapped gifts or packages
• Anything deemed by management to pose a safety hazard or diminish the enjoyment of an event by other guests.

Concessions

A number of concession stand locations will be open inside the arena before and during the ceremony. All concession transactions will be cashless. Credit cards and smartphone payments will be accepted.

Wheelchair Escorts

Complimentary wheelchair escorts are available at any entry point. Upon your arrival at the arena, ask any of our uniformed staff and they will call for an escort. You do not need to make arrangements prior to your event. They will escort you as close as possible to your seat and will make arrangements to pick you up after the event. Please be aware that our escort staff will not remain with you during the event, nor will they allow you to remain in our wheelchair for the duration of the event. Guest Attendants will assist guests who wish to transfer to a seat from their personal wheelchair with storing of their wheelchair during the event.

Family Accommodations

• Baby changing stations are available in all restrooms
• Private Family Restrooms are available near Section 124 on the Entry level
• Strollers are welcome but must be stored under your seat or stored at Guest Services near Section 127
• A dedicated Nursing Mother’s Room/Sensory Room is available for guests at near Section 104. A quiet space that includes soft furniture, a refrigerator, microwave, sink, baby changing table and TV are available.

No Smoking/Tobacco

The use of tobacco products (including and not limited to cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, cigars and cigarillos, hookah smoked products, pipes, oral tobacco and nasal tobacco) is prohibited in all university buildings and on all university-owned properties, including parking lots, garages, and outside areas. This includes any product intended to mimic tobacco products or deliver nicotine other than for the purpose of cessation.

Driving & Parking Information

Parking Locations & Fees

• Guest parking will be available in the Scarlet and Gray lots adjacent to the Schottenstein Center on graduation days. Follow the directions of the traffic control staff.
• College of Veterinary Medicine and College of Nursing: Parking will be free for all graduates and guests.
• High School Parking Fee: Some high schools may provide a complimentary parking permit for their graduates. If you do not have a parking permit from your school, each vehicle will be charged $10 to park. Parking is cashless - only credit/debit cards and mobile smartphone payments will be accepted in the lots.
• Disability parking is available on a first-come, first-serve basis in the Scarlet Lots adjacent to the Schottenstein Center. Parking is also $10 (cashless) to park in the disability lot for high school graduations.

Drop Off / Pick Up

In addition to available ADA parking spaces, guests with disabilities can be dropped off and picked up near the arena. Pickups and drop offs are conducted on Borror Drive - which runs along the north side of the arena. Traffic Control staff can direct you to the designated location for your event.
