GMS NEWS - April 25, 2019

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear GMS Community,

Please make sure to check out PTO volunteer opportunities in May and the supply sale fundraiser which runs through June 30th.  If you’re interested in volunteering, we will need you during our May Madness week, May 10th-17th. You can sign up to supervise an event (alongside GMS faculty) at the website below.

I don’t know about you, but my memories of school supply shopping with my children aren’t my most fond parenting memories!  If I had had the opportunity to purchase a supply kit from their PTO organization, I certainly would have. I encourage you to take advantage of the wonderful service PTO provides to our families AND to support the PTO (with its ONLY fundraiser for the school year).  Details for the sale are listed below.

Grizzell PTO’s biggest fundraiser, our 2019-2020 Supply Sale, is now live!  All sales are made through the 1ST Day School Supplies website, making it a quick and easy way to order!  The kits are grouped by grade, but please pay special attention to the notes section of each kit.

The extra options include:

*8th grade Spanish

*Calculators (including a graphing calculator for Algebra)

*6th grade Agenda

*Binders - these are not included in the grade level kits, but are VERY POPULAR. Please add it to your order if you'd like one for next year!

Kits will be available for pickup during Back to School Day on August 7, 2019.

BOOK FAIR

Please stop by our book fair this evening prior to attending the all grades orchestra concert.  We will be open from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The Book Fair is a great way to find books for your child and support the school library at the same time.  New this year is the digital payment option, eWallet, which allows you to add funds for your child to purchase books of his or her choosing. Check it out: http://www.scholastic.com/bf/grizzell

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL CHARITY EVENT

The 7th Annual Dublin Softball Battle for a Cure is being held at Scioto High School (4000 Hard Road, Dublin, OH 43016) this year on Saturday, May 4th from 11AM - 5PM.  The three Dublin High Schools will play each other and raise money for cancer. This year, Scioto softball is raising money for Melanoma, Coffman softball is raising money for Brain Cancer and Jerome is raising money for Kidney Cancer.

The game schedule is: 11 a.m. Scioto vs Jerome

1 p.m. Jerome vs Coffman

3 p.m. Scioto vs Coffman

This is a great Dublin community event where friends get to catch up with old teammates on rival high school teams and raise money for a much needed cause.

ATHLETIC INFORMATION/NEWS

As a reminder, all potential fall sports athletes must attend tryouts/practices for their respective sport in the Fall prior to the start of the season.  This always occurs prior to the start of the school year and this year Fall sports practices/tryouts begin on August 1st. Please mark your calendars and plan accordingly so that your child can take advantage of the athletic opportunities offered at GMS!  We don’t want anyone to miss the chance to be part of our teams and to represent Grizzell Middle School. GO CELTS!

SPORTS CAMPS

Many athletic programs host sports camps for younger athletes as a way of fundraising and all teaching their future athletes. As the feeder school for Jerome High School, we like to support those programs/teams by sharing information with GMS families.  Please consider supporting the Jerome Celtics camps when choosing athletic camps for your child. A few of them are listed below:

Jerome Football Camp

Jerome Girls Basketball Camp

Jerome Girls Soccer Camp

Jerome Cross Country Youth Camp

If you are looking for other camps or the Jerome camp dates don’t work for you, please consider camps being offered by other programs within the district.  They are listed on the district website under https://www.dublinschools.net/youthactivities.aspx
