April 5, 2019

Dear parents,

Well, at least we're starting to see snippets of some warm, sunny weather. I hope you are able to be outside when those windows appear.

If you didn't catch the district eBlast about the testing on this upcoming Tuesday, April 9th, please see the section below.

Tonight is our annual district Dodgeball Tournament at Scioto. If you've never had a chance to attend, it is a great event. There is some mighty talent between our student and teacher teams.

Have a great weekend!

Dusty

Senior Tag (Officer Collier):

Parents, it’s the time of year again where high school seniors around Central Ohio start playing Senior Tag. Neither the Dublin Police Department nor the Dublin City Schools support or endorse the playing of this game. While most seniors, and many parents, see this as harmless fun, let's be clear...Senior Tag can be a dangerous game with serious life consequences. Although the game does not take place on school grounds, it does take place throughout the community and some potential legal consequences of playing are: Public Indecency, Criminal Trespass, and Disorderly Conduct.

Obviously, not everyone who plays the game does it while breaking laws, but unfortunately some do. Please talk to your sons/daughters and make sure they are aware of the potential legal ramifications of their actions, especially the rule about being naked, and encourage them to obey all laws. We do not want to see your son/daughter arrested for making a bad decision that could have been easily avoided.

Please contact me if you have any questions, comments or concerns at ccoller@dublin.oh.us or

collier_chuck@dublinschools.net or 614-718-8286.

Dublin City Schools YPA Information Night

There is a YPA information night coming up. We will meet on Thursday, April 25th at 6:30 pm, at Emerald Campus, on the second floor, in the orange commons. At this meeting, we will go over basic YPA information and give helpful hints on how to begin looking for and securing an internship for the fall. This meeting is especially important for first semester students, however all future YPA students are welcome to attend. Future YPA students are also asked to check their email for more important information. We will hold an additional meeting in November for students planning to participate in YPA second semester.

Student Digital Portfolios

As a district, we have a commitment to helping our students navigate and create a positive digital life. As we continue to connect our students with real-world opportunities such as internships, college connections, and community partnerships, we plan to open our educational domain. This means our high school students (grades 9-12) will now have the ability to better communicate outside Dublin City Schools. Our high school students will now be able to create public websites and publish videos on their own YouTube Channels. Along with this opportunity, it will be important for students to take responsibility for managing their online presence. As part of our ongoing learning goal with students, we will regularly review digital citizenship rules and behaviors. An exciting project that we are beginning this spring, involves the creation of student digital portfolios. This spring we are beginning a district-wide initiative to help students create a digital portfolio to capture their digital learning artifacts that they have created throughout their years in Dublin City Schools. As we begin making this change in the next few weeks, please reach out to Lindie Schweitzer (schweitzer_lindie@dublinschools.net) if you have any questions about this change in permissions.

Jerome Clinic Procedures

Students who become ill or injured at school are to go to the Clinic to be evaluated. Please encourage your child to not phone or text a parent/guardian if they are not feeling well. In accordance with the Student Handbook, students who are ill or injured cannot be released from school until they have been evaluated in the Clinic and a parent/guardian or other emergency contact person is contacted for permission for the student to go home.
