Davis’ Susann Blair elected President of the American School Band Directors Association
Davis Middle School’s band director, Susann Blair, has been named president elect of the American School Band Directors Association (ASBDA) beginning with the 2018-19 school year and running through 2020.
Susann has been an educator with Dublin City Schools for 23 years, serving as Davis Middle School’s band director for all three grades. Additionally, she is the head of the Taiko drumming ensemble for the Dublin area, which is a Japanese form of drumming that she has incorporated her many roles as director. Her unique and impressive music career began during her time as an undergraduate student at Morehead State University, where she minored in the oboe and majored in the saxophone.
Since being with Dublin City Schools, Ms. Blair has earned many well-deserved recognitions. Not only has she been awarded the Golden Shamrock Award, the District’s lifetime achievement award, but she is also known for how well her students perform at various festivals and concerts throughout the school year. Moreover, she has served as the president of Ohio Music Educators Association (OMEA) District 15, for two terms.
“The performing arts are a big part of the Dublin Difference,” said Superintendent Dr. Todd Hoadley. “We are proud of Susann and I am sure she will serve this national organization well.”
ASBDA is a nationally recognized organization that was founded in 1953 with the intent to advocate for and appreciate the role of high quality school band programs across the country through the leadership of its directors. The five main tenets that the highly prestigious organization stands for are as follows: a strong belief in the concert band as the focus, a self-help based platform, close communication with administrators and their decisions, recognition of great achievement in the music field, and the intrinsic beliefs that come from like-minded people who unite to solve issues that are of national significance. As an educator who embodies all the aforementioned principles, Susann Blair could not be more deserving of this position.
As president elect of this nationally renowned organization, Susann will have the opportunity to expand her scope of influence and raise the profile of Dublin City Schools’ band and music programs.
