GMS News - October 4, 2018

It is difficult to believe October is here!  The change in the calendar signals that the Washington DC trip for our Grade 8 students and the end of the first quarter are right around the corner.  (ALREADY?!)

It also reminds us, parent/teacher conferences are scheduled in early November.  If you are interested in discussing your child’s progress, please contact his/her team leader or Mrs. Katie Pack, Guidance Secretary, to schedule a date and  time. To ensure all are present with whom you want to speak, please indicate in your email the names of all of your child’s teachers.

Have a wonderful weekend!

PSAT 8/9

On Wednesday, October 10th Grade 8 students will be taking the PSAT 8/9. Testing begins at 8:30am and will conclude by 11:30am. Students who typically begin their day at the high school (either Coffman or Jerome) will not attend their high school class that day but will need to report to GMS that morning. There is no cost for students to take the test and results will be available prior to winter break. Participation provides students an opportunity to become familiar with the test format and also gives us guidance about how we can provide intervention for students who, according to this one standardized assessment, may not be on track for college/career readiness.  Please contact Mrs. Evans at 614-718-8618 if you have questions/concerns.

Please take a few moments to review the following information about Blocksi and the various features it offers parents for monitoring and/or controlling technology time for children.  Parents are now able to:

  • Enforce bedtime and time access control on streaming media, social media, Youtube, gaming and other time addictive content.

  • Enforce a stricter Policy on certain websites when the Chromebook is at home, by blocking specific online content.

  • View web history and analyze trends of your child's internet browsing activity and get warned when blocked content is accessed.
