GMS NEWS - May 16, 2019

Dear GMS Community,

What a week!!  May Madness preliminaries were completed yesterday and today champions in each event will be crowned. Students can participate or spectate in the following events: volleyball, basketball, dodgeball, KanJam, Corn Hole, Hula Hoop, Pie Eating, Ping Pong, Capture the Flag, Chess, and board games. There is truly something for every student.

Thank you to all of the parent volunteers who gave up time to make May Madness happen. A special shout out goes to Scott Kilgren and Leslie Ungerott who chaired the May Madness committee.  Thank you to all!

If your schedule allows, please join Junior Teen Institute (JTI) for a club fair on the track this afternoon at 3:30pm.  Tables and information for many of the GMS clubs as well as snacks and games will be available. The event is free!

Have a great weekend!

Grizzell PTO’s biggest fundraiser, our 2019-2020 Supply Sale, is now live!  All sales are made through the 1ST Day School Supplies website, making it a quick and easy way to order!  The kits are grouped by grade, but please pay special attention to the notes section of each kit.

The extra options include:

*8th grade Spanish

*Calculators (including a graphing calculator for Algebra)

*6th grade Agenda

*Binders - these are not included in the grade level kits, but are VERY POPULAR. Please add it to your order if you'd like one for next year!

Kits will be available for pickup during Back to School Day on August 7, 2019

We need help organizing the pre-paid school supply kits on August 6th and distributing them to students on August 7th.  Please visit the following link to volunteer:

Many of you know JJ Thomas who was an 8th grader at Grizzell Middle School last year. He has been fighting Leukemia for 2 1/2 years and has just under a year to go in his treatment. His family is planning a JJ STRONG 5K run/walk this summer to give JJ support to help him get to the finish line of his battle with cancer and to raise money for Nationwide Children’s Hospital and Families for a Cure. Grizzell has been such a huge part of JJ’s support network and it would mean a lot to JJ and his family to have many Grizzell students come out for the JJ STRONG 5K. It will be held on June 15 at 9:30 AM starting outside the Dublin Recreation Center. Sign up online at The Thomas family will be forever grateful to Grizzell Middle School for all you have done for JJ.

As a reminder, all potential fall sports athletes must attend tryouts/practices for their respective sport in the Fall prior to the start of the season.  This always occurs prior to the start of the school year and this year Fall sports practices/tryouts begin on August 1st. Please mark your calendars and plan accordingly so that your child can take advantage of the athletic opportunities offered at GMS!  We don’t want anyone to miss the chance to be part of our teams and to represent Grizzell Middle School. GO CELTS!

Our guidance department’s page on the GMS website is a very useful source of information and offers links to other valuable resources and information for parents and students alike including academic and mental health resources.  Take a moment and check it out.

Many athletic programs host sports camps for younger athletes as a way of fundraising and all teaching their future athletes. As the feeder school for Jerome High School, we like to support those programs/teams by sharing information with GMS families.  Please consider supporting the Jerome Celtics camps when choosing athletic camps for your child. A few of them are listed below:

Jerome Football Camp

Jerome Girls Basketball Camp

Jerome Girls Soccer Camp

Jerome Cross Country Youth Camp

If you are looking for other camps or the Jerome camp dates don’t work for you, please consider camps being offered by other programs within the district.  They are listed on the district website under
