Thank you for the great educational opportunities you provide to our students. At the same time, our number one priority must always be student safety. As such, I am writing to share important information about a change that is being made to our 2017/2018 school calendar.
On Monday Oct. 2, we will be cancelling classes for students in order to provide you with enhanced student safety training in the form of nationally known speaker and trainer Francey Hakes. This action is one of our action steps in our new Student Safety Plan developed following the very unfortunate circumstances of this past summer.
Ms. Hakes served as the first ever National Coordinator for Children Exploitation, Prevention and Interdiction. Leading multiple groups across federal, state and local agencies, she oversaw all child exploitation efforts at the Department of Justice, including FBI, US Marshals, Criminal Division of Child Exploitation and many others. She also served as a prosecutor for more than15 years, and has been a lead counsel on dozens of trials related to crimes against children. Currently the CEO of her own consulting firm, Hakes has agreed to provide Dublin City Schools staff with this tremendous opportunity to learn from her expertise regarding the protection of children.
We are very fortunate to be able to bring in a speaker and trainer of Ms. Hakes’ caliber. As I said at convocation, student safety is the responsibility of every single Dublin City Schools employee, regardless of their position in the organization.
Specific details regarding the exact structure of the day are still being finalized and will be communicated to you in the near future by your building principal or supervisor.
Communication around this important change to our school calendar will occur over the next few days and it is important for me that you hear this information first.
Thank you for your support and for everything you do in order to keep our students safe.
