GMS NEWS - November 9, 2018

Dear GMS Community:

Thank you for supporting DCS Issue 5!  We are all excited to begin the planning steps that will alleviate the crowding issues the district faces.  I am blessed to work and live in a community that cares so deeply about its schools. #thedublindifference

As we enter the winter sports and music concert season, I hope to see all of you.  Ms. Murray and I thoroughly enjoy watching your children perform with their team and classmates. It is a great way to get to know students and appreciate the talents they have outside of the classroom.

Have a great weekend!

GMS NEWS - November 2, 2018

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

I hope you’re staying warm and dry on this dreary day!  Last evening was the first of our two designated parent/teacher conference evenings. Although the time slots were filled for last night,  there are likely spots available to talk with your child’s teacher on November 8th. If you find, after contacting Mrs. Pack (pack_katie@dublinschools.net) or your child’s team leader, that no more times are available in the evening,  don’t give up! Teachers have time between 7:40am and 8:15am several mornings a week to meet with parents.  And, if that time cannot be accommodated in your schedule, team planning time is also available. We want to meet with ALL parents who are interested!

As we close in on our Winter Holiday, I want to call your attention to two local organizations that are available both to support families who are going through tough financial times and to families who wish to help other Central Ohioans in need.  Welcome Warehouse and Dublin Bridges can provide for a variety of needs. The websites for both organizations are listed below.

              https://www.welcomewarehouse.org/           https://www.facebook.com/kindnessiscoolindublin/

Finally, our teaching staff will soon be embarking on a discussion about the purpose of homework and how Schoology is supporting students to complete practice at home.  Please take the time prior to next Wednesday morning, November 7th to complete the short survey at the link below. Your child will also be receiving a survey to complete.  Thank you in advance for encouraging him/her to participate. Your input is essential!

Have a great weekend!

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Greetings from Washington DC!  The 8th grade students are enjoying their trip and are safe.   We get compliments everywhere we go about how polite the students are. Thank you for sending such wonderful young people to GMS.

Our entire school is looking forward to the Thriller Dance next week. Students are permitted to wear their Trick or Treat costumes on the 31st. We appreciate your support as students choose their school appropriate costumes.

The Thriller event begins at 1 pm. Popcorn, water, and candy will be available for all. Students can enjoy a DJ, Bingo, games, and a photo booth. Sounds like FUN to me!

To additionally celebrate Halloween, Student Council is sponsoring a Spirit Week. See each day’s designated apparel listed below.

Have a wonderful weekend!

GMS NEWS - October 11, 2018

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

It seems impossible that we are approaching the end of the first quarter of school. Thank you for everything you’ve done to make the start of the 2018-19 school year a smooth one.  Students are working hard and seem to be positively engaged in their learning. This only happens when parents, teachers, and students work together. We appreciate you!

Parent conferences are just a few weeks away.  Please contact Mrs. Katie Pack, guidance secretary, or your child’s team leader to schedule a conference time. Teachers will contact families directly if they feel there is a need to meet, but parents are always welcome to initiate the process.

Eighth grade students and staff are busy preparing for their Washington DC trip.  If you have any questions about what to pack, the itinerary, or the travel arrangements, please contact Amber Yuen, DC Trip Coordinator, or me. The countdown is on…. only 12 days until this memorable school experience!

Have a wonderful weekend!

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

It is difficult to believe October is here!  The change in the calendar signals that the Washington DC trip for our Grade 8 students and the end of the first quarter are right around the corner.  (ALREADY?!)

It also reminds us, parent/teacher conferences are scheduled in early November.  If you are interested in discussing your child’s progress, please contact his/her team leader or Mrs. Katie Pack, Guidance Secretary, to schedule a date and  time. To ensure all are present with whom you want to speak, please indicate in your email the names of all of your child’s teachers.

Have a wonderful weekend!

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Tomorrow is 6th Grade Team Building Day!  We are very excited to have the Class of 2025 participate in Outback Team Pursuit challenges, building camaraderie during a kickball tournament and Escape Room activity, and enjoying Kona Ice with friends. Please look for photos on Twitter and our website.

This evening is our first PTO general meeting of the 2018-19 year. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the library.  Dr. Hoadley is our guest speaker and he will share updates regarding the upcoming Issue 5 as well as answer any questions you might have.

Finally, I’d like to ask you to please keep Ms. Murray and her family in your thoughts. Her father recently passed away after an extended illness.  I know that our school community is caring and would want to express your condolences should your paths cross in the near future.

Have a great weekend!

GMS NEWS - SEPTEMBER 21, 2018

Dear Parents:

I’m looking forward to our first canteen this evening!  It is hosted by our athletic department and begins at 7pm.  Cost of attendance is $3 unless your child has an athletic family pass which admits him/her into all athletic events at no charge.

Candy, snacks, and drinks will be available for $1. Students also have opportunity to enjoy music, ping pong, and foosball.  Pick up for the dance begins at 8:45pm. If you need to pick up prior to that time, I will escort your son or daughter to the car to ensure his/her safety.

Have a great weekend!

GMS NEWS - September 13, 2018

It’s another BIG Friday Night Football event at DJHS!  Please see the details below and make sure to RSVP by 5pm this evening for the tailgate.  Organizers want to make sure they have ample PIZZA for those in attendance.

Supporting community is a theme this month at Grizzell.  Our Celtic Connections group met this morning and planned a school wide (stay tuned for more details) activity for later this month; Celtic Knot is meeting Monday morning and will strategize about the “Start with Hello” initiative in late September, and Ms. Murray and Officer Burks begin their digital citizenship presentations today.  By the end of next week, 100% of GMS students will have participated in this important program. Being kind and encouraging a positive community is goal #1! Thank you for supporting this core value both inside and outside the walls of Grizzell Middle School.

Parents are an important part of our school community.  Recently, several parents have reached out for support with Schoology.  Our wonderful technology support coaches immediately directed me to the following resources:

If you need additional support, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Have a wonderful weekend and I will see you at the Jerome HC parade and tailgate.  Go Celts!

GMS NEWS -September 6, 2018

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

I hope to see everyone at the Jerome vs. Coffman football game tomorrow night at Jerome High School.  This promises to be a fun night with both communities coming together to cheer on their respective schools and collectively supporting the athletic talent at these schools.  If you haven’t already purchased your tickets, they will be available at Jerome during student lunches from 11:30 am - 1 pm or purchase online here

Speaking of talent, please be sure to come early to watch your 8th Grade Celtic Band members participate in the pre-game performance and to ensure you can get through the gates in time to see them!  My understanding is the high school student section has deemed tomorrow as a white out, so feel free to wear white or your green and gold Celtic spiritwear!

On a similar note, next week is the Jerome Homecoming.  Mark your calendars so you won’t miss the parade which starts at 5 p.m. at Indian Run United Methodist Church immediately followed by a tailgate for Grizzell and Karrer students and the game at 7 p.m.

Go Celts!
