Zoo School Opportunity

Zoo School is a unique opportunity for sophomore students who have an interest in science-related research, biology, zoology or animal sciences.
These students may take advantage of a unique experience their Junior and Senior years in high school at the Delaware Area Career Center. We are accepting applications for the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium Program, located on-site at the Columbus Zoo. This DACC program is a high level research-based program that presents a number of opportunities for academic-minded students to excel. It provides real world experiences in an authentic learning environment.

At the end of the first year, the students complete a pilot thesis and then complete an authentic thesis for the zoo. The thesis involves writing five chapters, gathering and analyzing data. In the first year, students earn a science credit in zoology, a math credit in statistics (with a dual credit option with the University of Findlay) and a CTE credit or elective credit in research.

  • Interested students are encouraged to attend an Open House on Thursday, January 25, 2018from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the Conservation Education Building at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. Please call 614-724-3608 for more information about the Open House. Attached, you will find a list of important dates and DACC Open House information.
