Our Experiential Learning Academies

An opportunity available to Dublin City School students at the Dublin Emerald Campus is the academies. Each offers students a chance to explore areas of interest and evaluate viable paths to a potential career. These opportunities aim to help students explore their interests beyond the traditional classroom.
- The academies are open to all Dublin City School students on the Emerald Campus.
- They are each 2-periods in length and offered at various times throughout the day depending on students' requests.
- There is no application process to enroll in the academies.
- Free transportation is provided between the home schools and the Emerald Campus.
- Interested students should consult with their school counselor for more details.

Aviation Academy
Students in this academy will explore multiple aspects of the aviation industry and flight fundamentals while gaining insight into the many careers available in aviation. By the end of this academy, students have the opportunity to earn the followign industry recognized credentials: Part 107 drone remote pilot license and UAS Level 1 Certification. Space is limited and students will be selected first by seniority, then lottery to participate.

BioMed Academy
The Biomedical Research Academy is an integrated immersion into biology, research, physiology and art. The program is designed to appeal to students with a strong interest in pursuing careers in medicine, nursing, research, or other allied health science fields. Students who participate in the Biomedical Research Academy will use a problem-based approach to develop a strong foundation into the practices of biomedical professionals and will gain significant career exposure.

Cyber Academy
This program is for students interested in the rapidly developing and advancing field of Cybersecurity. Cybersecurity students will learn skills that will prepare them for valuable certification exams and the potential for internships. Completing these courses and related cybersecurity certifications will provide students with a unique portfolio of skills to set them apart when applying for post-secondary institutions and/or career opportunities. Students who participate will take Introduction to Cybersecurity at the home high school the first year, then travel to Emerald Campus for the 2-period academy the second year.

Dublin Business Academy
The Dublin Business Academy (DBA) provides students with an opportunity to get started on the path to a successful career in business. This unique and challenging non-traditional program is for students interested in business, graphic design, or entrepreneurship. DBA students will contribute and study all aspects of running a real world business.

Dublin Teacher Academy
The Dublin Teacher Academy (DTA) is a junior and senior year program offered for college bound students to provide an opportunity to get a head start on the path to a successful career in education. It is open to students from all three high schools through an application process. In addition to site visits and internships, students will attend seminar and blended days at the Emerald Campus.

Engineering Academy
Students can find out if engineering is something they would like to pursue for a career, and if they are interested they can prepare to study engineering in college. We engage in hands-on collaborative design thinking projects using university and industry standard equipment and software packages in 3D design, data analysis, programming, and electrical circuitry. The Engineering Academy is open to students from all three high schools. Students who participate will need to travel to the Emerald Campus. The Engineering Academy is a two-period block program with three course credits and the option to take two Columbus State CCP courses upon meeting CCP placement requirements.

Entrepreneur Start Up Academy
Students interested in developing entrepreneurial skills will learn foundational business knowledge and practice Design Thinking skills applied to plan, design, create, and present their ideas.

Media Marketing Academy
The Media Marketing Academy provides students with the skills, knowledge, and experiences for careers in digital video, graphic design, and digital social media industries. This academy is a collaborative offering between Tolles and Dublin City Schools. Students who participate will travel to the Emerald Campus.

IT Academy
Students interested in Information Technology explore software development through a combination of courses in programming languages, web-design, databases, and more with the opportunity to earn college credit. Columbus State Community College courses are available for students interested in learning advanced computer programming skills. Students must pass the Columbus State entrance assessment (which requires adequate knowledge of Algebra II) in order to be eligible for college credit.

Sports Science Academy
Students explore careers in sports sciences and health-related fields through IB coursework that covers anatomy and physiology, evaluating performance through data collection and analysis, and performance maximization. Students will learn from individuals in sports and health-related fields, author research projects that illustrate their understanding of the concepts, and have the opportunity to earn CPR and first aid certification.

Young Professionals Academy
The Young Professionals’ Academy (YPA) offers a semester long program that assists students in developing the skills, knowledge, and expertise to succeed in work and life. Through classroom lessons and two, six-week professional, work-place learning experiences, YPA students work to develop the critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving skills required for success in college and careers. YPA is open to students from all three high schools through an application process. In addition to site visits and internships, students will need to attend seminar and blended learning days at the Emerald Campus.
