Student Data & Privacy
As a participant in the federal E-Rate program, Dublin City Schools adheres to the requirements of the Child Internet Protection Act (CIPA). This means that the district has an internet safety policy in place, which includes measures to block or filter access to inappropriate online content. Additionally, we monitor students' online activities on district devices as part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and educational online environment.
Beyond compliance with CIPA, Dublin City Schools utilizes monitoring tools through our technology provider(s) for other permissible reasons as outlined under Ohio Senate Bill 29 (ex: location tracking, web-browsing activity, and other student interactions with school-issued devices). These monitoring practices not only help in filtering content and alerting designated school personnel to potential threats, instances of violence, or indications of suicidal or self-harm ideation, but they also assist teachers in ensuring that students remain on task during class. These measures support the safety, learning, and productivity of our students both online and in the classroom.
Our district is in the process of compiling a detailed list of all technology providers that monitor student activity, filter content, and/or alert school officials to harmful content and will share it here once available.
