Graduation Requirements

State law and the Ohio Department of Education have introduced new graduation requirements for students in the class of 2023 and beyond. Students entering ninth grade after July 1, 2019, must meet the new requirements outlined in the presentation linked below. Ohio’s new graduation requirements consist of three key components:

1. Earn Required Credits

Students are required to earn a total of 21 credits to earn a diploma from Dublin City Schools. Below is a breakdown of the credit requirements:

2. Show Competency

Students will demonstrate competency in the foundational areas of English language arts and mathematics or through alternative demonstrations, which include College Credit Plus, career-focused activities

    1. Students must earn a “competency” score on the English II and Algebra I end-of-course tests

    2. Students must test 2 times and receive remediation before exploring alternative pathways

3. Demonstrate Readiness

Students will demonstrate readiness for their post-high school paths by earning two seals that allow them to demonstrate important foundational and well-rounded academic and technical knowledge, professional skills, social and emotional competencies, and leadership and reasoning skills. Students will demonstrate readiness by earning at least two diploma seals, one of which must be state-defined.
