Immunization Requirements
Immunizations are an important part of keeping students, staff, and schools healthy. Ohio law requires students attending school to be vaccinated against certain diseases unless an exemption applies. Dublin City Schools follows requirements set by the Ohio Department of Health to ensure safe learning environments for all students.
Students are required to receive vaccines that protect against diseases such as:
-
Diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (DTaP/Tdap)
-
Polio
-
Measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR)
-
Hepatitis B
-
Varicella (chickenpox)
-
Meningococcal disease (grades 7–12)
Vaccine dose requirements vary by age and grade level. Families are encouraged to review the Ohio Department of Health Immunization Summary, linked below, for detailed, grade-specific requirements.
Clarification for Immunization Requirements
January 14, 2026 - Recent updates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) regarding vaccine recommendations may raise questions for families about school immunization requirements.
Dublin City Schools follows immunization requirements established by the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) and Ohio law. While the CDC provides national public health guidance, vaccination requirements for school attendance in Ohio are determined at the state level.
At this time, Ohio has not adopted the CDC’s recent changes related to certain vaccines. As a result, Dublin City Schools will continue to require all immunizations currently mandated by the Ohio Department of Health.
This includes:
- The Meningococcal ACWY vaccine for students entering 7th and 12th grades, and
- The Hepatitis B vaccine, which applies to students across grade levels.
Families may encounter information referencing updated CDC recommendations through healthcare providers or online sources. While those recommendations are important for broader public health guidance, school immunization requirements remain unchanged unless and until Ohio law is updated.
Dublin City Schools will continue to monitor guidance from the Ohio Department of Health and will communicate with families if state requirements change.
Families with questions about their student’s immunization status should contact their school nurse or review the district’s immunization resources.
