APRIL 13, 2018

Hello Sells families:

I would like to take the time to reach out to parents to remind everyone of the dress code policy that is in place for the middle school level. As the weather continues to warm (and the past two days have been well over-due) we are beginning to see students wearing shorts and other weather appropriate clothes to school. Sometimes, the choice of fashion, while weather appropriate, is not meeting the dress code standards. Thank you for being mindful of this as we finish out the school year.

Next week, ALL grades will take Part 1 and 2 of the Math AIR Tests on Wednesday and Thursday (April 18-19). Finally, ONLY the 8th grade class will complete the Science AIR Test on Monday, April 23.

We encourage our students to be sure to get a good night's sleep the day before these tests and to eat breakfast. We will still be serving breakfast each morning as we typically do in the cafeteria. Please take the time to discuss with your child the importance of having them do their best with these assessments. Parents of 6th grade students - please help us in making sure you child's device is fully charged before returning to school each day of testing.

Thank you for supporting the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Committee’s 11th annual Dodgeball Tournament on April 6. The event raised more than $14,300, thanks to your support!

Finally, this note is for the parents of our 8th grade students -- Please be looking for an email early next week from me that will be highlighting the Class of 2022 Legacy Gift to Sells. Our 8th grade Student Advisory Council has been working to finalize their choice for this gift. Your student will be soliciting you all to make a donation towards the completion of their designated project. Thank you for taking the time to read through that information and for considering making a donation, no matter the amount.

It is good to be a Rock!

History & Geography Bee Results - Sells Middle School continued to do well at History and Geography competitions.  Cooper Vogel participated in the Ohio Geography Bee on Friday, April 6, at OSU's Fawcett Center.  Cooper answered seven out of eight answers correctly in the preliminary competition. Unfortunately, his score did not advance him to the finals, but he represented Sells very well.

Sells sent six students to the Columbus Regionals of the History Bee located at Lakewood Middle School on Monday, April 9.  Reena Ding, Kiran Singri, and Zach Bartemescompeted in the Elementary division; Addison Jackson, Vincent Bostick, and Alex Glaubitz competed in the Middle School division.  All of our students did well, and enjoyed their experience.

Alex Glaubitz did very well.  For the third year in a row, his scores qualified him to compete in the Nationals to be held on May 31-June 2 in Atlanta.  Also, Alex took a test and qualified for the National History Olympiads to be held during the Nationals of the History Bee.

To all these students, thank you for your hard work and awesome results, and for demonstrating Rock Pride!
