Mrs. Yaple's Weekly Newsletter

December 7-14, 2018

Dear Parents,

Today is the big day in first grade! We look forward to seeing everyone this morning to make gingerbread houses. Please make sure your child has the cardboard house (made from the template), decorations to share and a spatula to spread icing, If you volunteered to make icing please bring it with you. We are so excited!! Thank you for helping to make this day possible.

Thank you to those who sent in items for Welcome Warehouse. Deer Run will be making the holidays very special for those families.

We are excited about partnering with The Ronald McDonald House. We had a kick off assembly this past week to explain its importance to the students. Former Deer Run student and DJHS graduate, Mark Burkholder, spoke to the students about how RMH helped his family when he had a skateboarding accident that left him with a traumatic brain injury.

Permission slips for the talent show are due Monday December 10. Auditions are December 13 and 14. The Talent Show will be December 21 at 1:10.

Next week, we will continue with opinion writing and comparing gingerbread stories. In word study, we will review short i patterns. In math, we will be learning how to add 2 digit numbers to one digit numbers (no carrying) and adding tens to two digit numbers. In social studies, we will be learning about Holidays Around the World visiting Germany, Sweden, Mexico, England and Italy.

Week of December 10-14:

Have a great weekend!
