Mrs. Yaple's Weekly Newsletter

September 21-28, 2018

Dear Parents,

Tonight is Leeds Farm. This fun family event begins at 6:00.

Today packets will come home for the Deer Run Run-A-Thon. This is the PTO's biggest fundraiser of the year. The Run is on October 5.

Please return your child's COSI permission slip as soon as possible. It came home on pink paper the week. We now have all 5 chaperones to go with our class. Thank you!
Next week is Start With Hello week. Lessons each day will correlate with the Sandy Hook Promise and will teach students a culture of inclusion and connectedness. Students form the Dublin Teaching Academy will be in our classes teaching lessons each day.

Next week, we will be learning about what an apple tree needs to grow and will also celebrate Johnny Appleseed's birthday. Please send an apple to school on Wednesday for science and math activities. Please do not cut the apple. We will use the apples for our lessons, then I will wash them and each child may eat his/her apple for a snack.

Next week, we will be using mentor texts to model our narrative writing. In reading, we will be using illustrations and details to recognize characters, setting & events. Our new "no excuse" words will be: about, one, some, friend, what, apple, once, upon. In math, we will be learning the strategies doubles and doubles +1 to solve addition problems. In science, we will be learning about how apple trees grow.

Week of September 24-28:
Monday-Library (return books)
Wednesday-Music, Bring Apple
Thursday-Gym (wear tennis shoes)
Friday-Library(return books)

Have a good weekend!
