2020-21 School Year Opening Timeline
City Schools Board of Education unanimously passed a Resolution for Return to School 2020-21. You can read the text of the resolution below.
Aug. 17 - Teachers report to work
Aug. 24 - ALL students will begin the school year in remote learning mode
Sept. 8 - Hybrid learning orientation begins for those students not in the Dublin Remote Learning Academy. During this orientation period, about 25% of our student body will attend school on a given day to become acclimated to the Hybrid Learning Model. (More details on orientation will be available soon.)
Sept. 21 - It is the goal of the Board of Education to implement the full Hybrid Learning Model (50%) student capacity, The start date will be determined by the Board and based upon a review of current COVID-19 pandemic data points, state and local guidance, any additional orientation needs, and barring any currently unknown circumstances.
Resolution for Return to School 2020-21
WHEREAS, as the 2020-2021 school year quickly approaches, the Board believes it is important to inform the community now of its plan for how and when to open its school buildings so that families are able to prepare for the start of the school year; and WHEREAS, the Board approached this important decision with the goal of having students physically present in school to the safest extent possible, believing that doing so serves the greatest benefit for child development, social and emotional skills, and countless other benefits beyond education important to our student population; including reliable nutrition, special education, and opportunities for physical activity; and
WHEREAS, in reaching this decision the Board has carefully considered the orders and guidance from state and local health departments as well as the input of thousands of parents, staff, and community members through comments, questions, surveys, focus groups, and more. The Board has also consulted with the Franklin County Public Health Commissioner and given consideration to the current state of the COVID-19 virus in our community in this effort to open school safely for students and staff.
WHEREAS, the Board believes that families should have a choice whether it is appropriate based upon their own health and family circumstances for their children to attend school inperson or remotely at this time.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Dublin City Schools Board of Education hereby sets forth its intention to begin the 2020-2021 school year with options for families that include either attending the Dublin City Schools Remote Learning Academy (opt-in required by August 5, 2020) or, with no opt-in required, starting the school year with a safe and measured transition to the District’s Hybrid Learning Model, as follows:
August 17, 2020: Teachers will report to school buildings for 5 days of professional development, to include preparing teachers under the District’s remote learning and hybrid learning plans as well as safety expectations for students and staff.
August 24, 2020: School year begins for all students. Students whom have opted-in for the Dublin City Schools Remote Learning Academy will begin their education on this date and remain there for the first semester. All other students will begin the school year following the Remote Learning Model while also learning safety practices expected during the Hybrid Learning Model to ensure a safe and measured transition.
September 8, 2020: Students not in the Dublin City Schools Remote Learning Academy will begin orientation in school buildings under the Hybrid Learning Model with the goal to begin the full Hybrid Learning Model on September 21. The start date will be determined by the Board and based upon a review of current COVID-19 pandemic data points, state and local guidance, any additional orientation needs, and barring any currently unknown circumstances.
