Superintendent's Office

  • The Dublin City Schools Board of Education voted to hire Dr. John Marschhausen as its new permanent superintendent at their meeting April 5. Dr. Marschhausen is currently the acclaimed leader of the Hilliard City Schools.

“This is the time of year when the very best superintendent candidates get hired and, when our district had an opening, we moved quickly to hire the very best candidate,” Board President Chris Valentine said. “We almost hired Dr. Marschhausen eight years ago and we’ve gotten to know him even better since then. He is an outstanding educational leader who, like our Board, is deeply committed to academic excellence as well as diversity, equity, and inclusion.

“Dublin parents and taxpayers expect the best and, with Dr. Marschhausen, we’ve hired the best,” Board Vice President Lynn May said. “He has decades of stellar educational leadership accomplishments and he already knows Dublin well.”

The Board decision follows in-depth interviews of Dr. Marschhausen by a large and diverse group of district staff, parents, and community leaders. Many of the people involved in that process were particularly effusive in their praise of Dr. Marschhausen.

“Dr. Marschhausen’s work in Hilliard has added to our District’s respect of his leadership capabilities,” said community member Deb Papesh. “During many complicated episodes during this pandemic year, his response to tough topics via shared videos had a calming, reassuring effect not only to Hilliard parents but to many in our District as well.”

Dublin Jerome Principal Mike Aurin said he believes Dr. Marschhausen’s ability to communicate and bring the community together.

“He has the opportunity to bring heart to the relationships in the District. I believe he can communicate and build the trust required to let our teachers, and community know how much we all care about our students,” Aurin said.

Dr. Marschhausen has been the Hilliard City Schools Superintendent since 2013. Prior to that, he was Superintendent of Loveland City School District (three years) and East Knox Local School District (five years). Prior to that, he was a principal, assistant principal, coach, and social studies teacher. He has taught at The Ohio State University, Ohio Dominican University, and Capella University. He was appointed by Governor Mike DeWine to the Governor’s Executive Workforce Board.

“I’m honored and excited to accept this responsibility,” Dr. Marschhausen said. “Dublin City Schools are known across Ohio for excellence in education and preparing students to achieve in college, careers, and adulthood. My wife has been a teacher in this district and we’ve seen first-hand the amazing dedication of staff and parents to supporting and empowering students.”

At this evening’s meeting, Dr. Marschhausen presented the Board with a “100 Day Plan.” You can review the document at this link.

Dr. Marschhausen’s contract begins Aug. 1, but he will begin consulting for the District on May 1.
