Continuum of Gifted Services

Dublin City Schools gifted services, under the Department of Academics and Student Learning, is committed to providing our students with world-class instruction and a well-rounded educational experience. We focus on continuously improving in everything we do. “Gifted” students perform or show potential for performing at remarkably high levels of accomplishment when compared to others of their age, experience or environment and who are identified under division (A), (B), (C), or (D) of section 3324.03 of the Ohio Revised Code. A comprehensive service continuum provides Dublin’s identified gifted learners with challenging curriculum and enrichment opportunities. We identify students in superior cognitive ability; math; reading; creative thinking; and visual and performing arts using approved assessments from the Ohio Department of Education. Written Education Plans (WEPs)

Students who are in classes facilitated by a Gifted Intervention Specialist will receive a Written Education Plan (WEP). Dublin City Schools follows guidance through the Ohio Department of Education’s Gifted Operating Standards by providing a Written Education Plan (WEP) for gifted services for your cognitively gifted child. The WEP aligns with the goals of Dublin City Schools gifted service by supporting the growth of cognitively gifted students in the areas of critical thinking and student wellbeing. WEPs can be viewed through SameGoal.

Elementary
Math & Reading Support: Classroom teachers work in conjunction with gifted intervention specialists to grow their understanding of gifted learners and to provide opportunities for differentiation and enrichment. Students identified as gifted in math and/or reading receive instruction from their classroom teacher to further develop and enrich understanding of grade level standards.
4th & 5th Grade Service for Superior Cognitively Gifted Students: Gifted Intervention Specialists facilitate a class for cognitively gifted students with a focus on expanding critical thinking and supporting student well being.
Accelerated Math 5-6: Students who meet multiple criteria measures will be given an opportunity to participate in math 5-6. In this class, compacted fifth and sixth grade mathematics curriculum with rigorous pacing will be covered in one school year. Criteria for placement consists of a holistic review of MAP math and reading scores, a child's most recent CogAT composite score, and the quantitative subscore on that assessment.

Middle School

6th-8th grade Trimester Elective Service for Superior Cognitively Gifted Students: Gifted Intervention Specialists facilitate this elective class for cognitively gifted students with a focus on expanding critical thinking and supporting student well being.
Accelerated Math 7-8: Students who are recommended or self-select will have an opportunity to participate in this class. In this class, compacted seventh and 8th grade mathematics curriculum with rigorous pacing will be covered in one school year.

High School
There are a variety of opportunities for gifted students at the high school level. Students may self-select from a variety of advanced coursework and/or pathway options that best fit a student's skills, interests, passions and goals. Various high school opportunities include: Honors, Advanced Placement (AP), and Emerald Campus offerings (Academic Academics, College Credit Plus (CCP) and International Baccalaureate (IB). High school students are encouraged to consult with their school counselor or high school Gifted Intervention Specialist for additional information and/or recommendations. The high school GIS is available to consult with teachers, parents and students in striving to meet the unique needs of high school students.
