    With the leadership of our technology team and the Dublin City Schools Board of Education, we have great confidence that the process of going 1:1 with Chromebooks in our district will enhance student learning and prepare students for their futures in career and college readiness.  

    One of our goals of this implementation is focused on the personalization of learning for all students. Technology in and outside of the classroom will enhance each student’s educational experiences. Providing a device to each student, just as a textbook, levels the playing field and ensures all students have equitable access to their curriculum.



  • Our Implementation Plan


    Each year students in the 6th and 9th grade will receive a Chromebook at the beginning of the school year. Students will only receive a Chromebook if they have signed the 1:1 Contract with a parent or guardian, available online in the Back to School online portal. Visit the Back to School Portal.

    When students who received a Chromebook in 6th grade complete their 8th grade school year, we will collect their Chromebooks and as freshmen, they will receive a new Chromebook. The collected 8th grade Chromebooks will be distributed to the elementary schools.

    An annual student technology fee of $40 will be issued each year. You can review the guidelines for the $40 fee in the contract listed to the right of this page.  The technology fee does not cover the loss of a power cord. See the links below to purchase a replacement:

    Seniors who have paid their fees in 9th, 10th, and 11th grade will not pay in 12th grade. We are happy to announce these students will be able to keep their Chromebook after their senior year so they can have a device for college and/or their career path. These devices have a longer life span and will be able to support students in whatever their future holds.


    About the Device

    6th and 9th graders will be issued the Acer Spin 512 in the Fall of 2020. The Acer is also a 2-in-1 laptop to tablet conversion, with an upgrade of a built-in stylus, 12-hour battery, and universal 5c charging cord.

    Students in grades 7, 8, 10, 11 & 12 have been issued the Chromebook 3189 and 5190 for Education, the 2-in-1 laptop to tablet conversion comes with a sealed, spill-resistant keyboard, rubberized edges, and Drop Protection, so it can withstand lockers, lunchrooms, and buses. With at least 10 hours of battery life, this Chromebook will get students through even the longest school days.


    Opt-Out Agreement

    Families who do not wish to accept a Chromebook will be responsible for supplying their student with a like device that can be brought to school daily, along with purchasing district-required software. Additionally, you must sign this "OPT Out Agreement". Please have it ready to turn in on your school's designated Chromebook distribution day.

After parents electronically sign the 1-1 User Agreement, (The Back to School Portal) the students will receive a Chromebook on their school's distribution day. Please see your school website for this information.

Yes. These are your bags to keep. They may label them for identification as they wish. You are also welcome to use or purchase your own bag. We ask that you purchase a bag designed for technology with extra support.

Accidental damage causing the Chromebook to be unusable is the responsibility of Dublin City Schools to replace, if you have paid the $40 technology fee. Families who do pay the fee will be charged for loss or damage. In the event of damage or technical difficulties, students should take their Chromebook to the Media Center located in their school for service. If the device cannot be fixed at that time, a loaner Chromebook may be issued to the student. If a student’s Chromebook is stolen or damaged by another party, please report it to the office immediately. Your claim will be investigated further by the school district and/or the appropriate police agency.

The Chromebook does not have a hard drive. All student files live in the Google Drive cloud that can only be accessed with the students Dublin City Schools login and password. Our educational domain can not be accessed by users with non-Dublin City Schools accounts. This deems the Chromebook useless to user outside Dublin City Schools. We can also track Chromebook locations through our remote system. Last year we were able to recover all lost Chromebooks.

Each school will have charging stations in the Media Center, Cafeteria and most study hall rooms.

The equipment can be turned into the Media Center or the main office. If you leave the district without turning in your device, Dublin City Schools will hold your students transcripts, until it is returned.

Students who are enrolled in a district-run summer program will be able to keep their devices over the summer. All other students will turn in their Chromebook to be updated and cleaned.

No, as 9th grade students they will receive a new device. Older devices will be recycled for use in testing, elementary schools and other areas of need.

A Chromebook runs the Chrome Operating System, this device does not have a hard drive. Files, video and other web content live in Google Drive, otherwise known as the “Cloud”. Please do not think student information is out for everyone to access. Dublin City Schools has a Google Apps For Education private domain. You must have a district issued Gmail to access the domain. The good news about students saving to Google Drive is they can access their work from anywhere at anytime. All they have to do is log into their Chrome account on any PC, Laptop, Chromebook or smartphone.

The district is installing a program called Blocksi. Blocksi provides the following benefits. Filters most inappropriate websites and web content at school and when the device is taken home. Allows teachers to only allow certain to be accessed for a lesson. Teachers can monitor all student devices from one screen in real-time, and even lock devices when it is necessary. Teachers can instant message with students quietly to support them. Take a Peek at Blocksi here! Parent access will be emailed to you in August. With these devices all students will have access to online materials in Schoology, Google Classroom and other online materials. Students will be collaborating in workshop and working throughout the year on creating a digital portfolio of work, that will follow them until graduation. This will better prepare students for their future, as they move on into the workforce or in the college application process.
