Welcome to the PTO! Our goal is to enrich the school year for our students, teachers and staff at Grizzell.  

Our Grizzell Middle School PTO subscribes to the MySchoolAnywhere service. It's easy to use and free to families.

GMS PTO General Meeting Minutes

Wednesday, April 18, 2018

  1. Welcome
  2. Principal’s Report - Mrs. Evans — thanks to all of the May Madness volunteers!
    1. Air testing was cancelled today at the State level because their server went down.  April 23 will be the makeup day.  
    2. A subset of Celtic Connections through Ms. Mizok is planning a “lunch switch” for Wednesday, April 25.  Kids will get a card telling them where to sit, and they will have no phones, and a table leader will lead the kids in games.  
    3. May 10 is the Grizzell Arts Festival and also the 5th grade family night, for a tour of the building.   
    4. Our new group — Girl Up — just finished 100 hygiene kits for girls in Guatemala.  
  3. President’s Report - Danielle and Becca
    1. PTO Luncheon will be May 16 at 11:30 a.m.  Location TBD.  Please watch your email for an invitation.   
  4. Vice President’s Report - Chris and Corina
    1. Executive Board was voted on and approved, including new corresponding secretary.  
    2. Committee Chairs for next year are still needed for Canteen Bingo, 8th Grade Events, Library volunteers, PERC, Spirit Wear and possibly Welcome Committee.
    3. Using “First Day School Supplies” for next year — voted on and approved cost.  Parents will get an email with their login information and will be able to order from the Supply Sale, including optional “extras”.  They will then pick up their packs in the gym before school starts.  The site also includes PTO memberships, payments, volunteer sign ups and opt-in for school directory.  
  5. Treasurer’s Report - Jackie and Michelle
    1. Budget was distributed
    2. Systems for reimbursement and deposits needs to be followed.  Those making purchases need to fill out the reimbursement form and attach a receipt.
  6. May Madness - Scott Kilgren
    1. Committee chair positions are all filled except Dodgeball.
    2. Sign Up Genius is going out for general volunteers. 
  7. Officer Burks discussed Social Media and what he teaches the 7th graders
    1. Showed a great video about all of the information strangers can get just from looking at kid’s social media sites.  
    2. Discussed the “drama” that happens when kids go too far with their posts, as well as how it can effect their reputation in the short and long term.
    3. Showed a video about drinking and parties, and what happens when kids post photos of their illegal activities — expulsion, getting kicked off teams, losing college acceptances, scholarships, etc.  
    4. Discussed what he says to kids about sexting and how it can go viral.  Showed a great, age-appropriate video.  
    5. Discussed how “grooming” happens
    6. Cyberbullying and Amanda Todd story.  
    7. How to create a positive online environment

PTO SPONSORED - 6TH GRADE DANCE CLUB

6TH GRADE DANCE CLUB

Dance Club is a special 6th grade ONLY tradition at all the Dublin middle schools. For four evenings during the month of February, students will meet in the gym at either Davis, Grizzell, Karrer or Sells Middle School for fun dance lessons - from classic dance steps to the newest group and line dances –with a professional dance instructor! In addition, they will also learn dance etiquette and social skills during these sessions while having a great time with old and new friends. After the 4 lessons are done, there is a final Dance Party where the students from all 4 middle schools gather together to show off their new dance moves.  Cost is $40. Registration form is attached.

Let Me Run Club
Let Me Run is coming back to Grizzell for our Spring season!
 
The spring season will open registration on February 5th online at https://www.raceplanner.com/register/index/Columbus-2017-Fall-Program and the season will begin the week of March 5th for all of the schools in Columbus.  We will have our season culminating 5k on May 6th at 8:30AM!  Here is a link to our 5K website https://runsignup.com/Race/OH/Dublin/LetMeRunColumbus5K

SIXTH GRADE ONLY DANCE CLUB!

Attention 6th grade BOYS! Let Me Run Fall season is starting soon! Registration opens up on Monday, August 22 at 8:00 a.m. online at www.letmerun.org. We are limited to the first 14 to sign up. The season will begin on September 26th and end on November 9th. We will practice on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:11-5:00 p.m. Our season culminating 5k will be on November 13th. The team will fill up quickly, so please make sure to register early. Josh Vidor will be the Head coach this season with Julie Brammer as assistant coach. LAST CHANCE FOR LET ME RUN
Hello parents of boys grades 6-8. There is still time to join the Let Me Run Club. Registration is open until April 4th. The cost is $100 for 7 weeks of training and team building experiences. There is a 5K run on May 21st. This is a wonderful opportunity for boys who are not participating in a Spring sport at Grizzell. We have room for 8 more boys. Sign up at www.letmerun.org today. 
MARCH MADNESS VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
March Madness, a week long, fun filled PTO sponsored event, begins Monday, March 28 - Friday April 1 with the Finals taking place after school on Friday, April 1.  All GMS students have been invited to participate in many events happening March Madness week including dodgeball, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, Kan Jam, Rubik's Cube, Minute to Win It games, Finish the Lyric, Hula Hoop and much more!  Many, many volunteers are needed to pull off this event.  Please click on the link below to review the available volunteer opportunities.  Please note that March Madness begins the Monday after Spring Break so we'd like to get all volunteers spots filled before the break.  Don't delay, sign up today!  Thank you for your support.  If you have any questions about March Madness, please contact Jodi Rhodes at srhodes6@columbus.rr.com or Stef Palmer at spalmer5@columbus.rr.com.
