Officer Burks is our School Resource Officer assigned to Glacier Ridge. Although he is stationed at Grizzell, Officer Burks also supports Glacier Ridge in a variety of ways. Each week, Officer Burks visits GRE interacting with students, presenting to classrooms, and providing safety consultation to staff. So, if you see his police cruiser in the parking lot, don’t be alarmed. It is just Officer Burks providing the routine additional layer of safety for our students, school, and community.
Department of Curriculum & Instruction hosting a Math Resource Community
Night on Thursday, January 24th. K-12 parents are invited to the media center
at Coffman HS from 6:30-7:30pm to hear about the math curriculum review process
and have the opportunity to view and provide feedback on the resources being
considered for our math classrooms.
Welcome back from winter break. Clearly, winter has finally arrived. I hope you were able to spend time with
family, relax, or take some time for yourselves over the winter break. The Kurty family stayed in town and had family
come to visit for the holidays. Our two girls
had gymnastics almost every day (which they LOVE) and it seemed to break up the
long days of a long winter break.
The staff and I are happy to be back at school and we have seen an excitement from the students as well. Although it may have been difficult to get students back into the school morning routine, COSI on Wheels helped ease the transition back to school and the students were excited about the program – especially making slime as part of the chemistry theme.
Please welcome Mr. Dave Lakin as our new crossing guard. We
are excited to have him join the GRE family as a staff member. Thank
you for your continued effort to follow procedures for arrival and
dismissal. We are able to successfully
get 740+ students to and from school safely in approximately 7 minutes. Below are just a few reminders and a new items
regarding arrival and dismissal:
not leave your car running if you are backed into a parking spot along the
walking path by the soccer fields. For
the safety of the students, please turn your car off so students are not
exposed to the fumes coming out of the back of cars as they walk along the path
We have adjusted
the time that buses leave in the morning after dropping students off to increase
the efficiency of the car line in the morning.
During arrival, cars will get priority during drop off. The buses will wait until the car line
diminishes before attempting to exit the parking lot. During dismissal, buses will get priority to
ensure a prompt bus stop schedule. As a
result, we may stop traffic to release the buses.
cognizant of students and families around the crosswalk area. Please also encourage your student walkers to
adhere to the crosswalk areas and follow instructions of the crossing guard.
Again, we appreciate your patience and compliance with these procedures. If you have questions or suggestions for refinement, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
