is my 8th year of teaching. I have previously taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades, and I am now a Reading Support Teacher. I enjoy teaching
and reading very much, and I love working with the students at Thomas
Elementary to enhance their literacy skills.
child will be working very hard and learning many strategies to strengthen
their reading throughout the school year. It is also important for them to have
your support at home as well. One of the greatest gifts and most beneficial
things you can give your child are daily opportunities to explore literacy
activities. I encourage you to read-aloud to your child, listen as your child
reads to you, and read a variety of books together with your child. Reading on
a regular basis and providing daily literacy experiences are the foundation for
continued success in school. There are many additional things you can do to
promote literacy at home as well, some including; engage in conversations,
encourage writing in a journal on topics of interest, play word games like
Scrabble, and frequently visit the public library. Remember to have fun
reading, writing. . . and learning!
