Workout Wednesdays

Dublin City Schools is in its second year of an employee wellness program that many staff members at IRE are participating.  We are inviting the students of IRE to join us in our focus on wellness.  Each Wednesday for the next 8 weeks, students can wear workout gear (sweatpants, tennis shoes, etc) to school.  We will be taking some time throughout the day to “Move It” with the kids.  Also, we will be sending home optional Workout Wednesday Homework that can be completed throughout the week.  If your family chooses to participate, your child can fill out the bottom portion of the homework and return it to school.  The completed portions will be collected and we will randomly pick winners each week to win wellness prizes.  We hope you and your family will join us as we launch Workout to Wellness 2011.

Pick two things from this list that your family would like to try this week.  Do each activity as a family.  Have fun together!!!

o   Involve the whole family in a night of household chores, cleaning, vacuuming.

o   Build a Snowman outside together as a family (make sure everyone is included).

o   Eat at least two meals together as a family with no media (TV, computer, cell phones, etc) allowed.  Talk about your favorite fitness activities and/or your favorite “healthy” foods to eat.

o   Pick two nights where everyone in the family has to drink either water or milk for dinner.

o   Get fruit, a potato or a salad instead of french fries if you eat fast food this week.

o   Put on your family’s favorite music (if you can’t all agree, everyone gets to pick one song) and have a family dancing competition (at least 20 minutes of dancing).
