GMS NEWS - September 7, 2017

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear GMS Community:

It’s been a busy week here at GMS! Students and teachers are working hard to establish learning routines; students are casting votes for the Hurricane Harvey/Irma relief effort; student council elections are in full swing; and fall sports teams are competing with pride. It’s a great time to be a GMS Celt!

Our entire community has an opportunity that I want you to be aware of. Last spring, the GMS PTO sponsored a Red Cross blood drive in honor of JJ Thomas. So many people responded to the need that the Red Cross had to turn away donors. As a result, we have arranged for another blood drive on Sunday, September 17th. Anyone over the age of 17 (with parent permission) can register to donate. The drive will be held in the GMS commons, begins at 10am, and concludes at 3pm. Please visit the website below to schedule an appointment.

As is usually the case, I have no doubt that our community will rally behind this effort. Spread the word to your co-workers, neighbors, and friends. Let’s see if we can “sell out” the blood drive for a second time!

Have a wonderful weekend.

Corinne

GLOBAL SCHOLARS FIELD TRIP - GREECE AND ITALY 2018
Our core group of Grizzell student and parent travelers invites you to learn more about joining our June 2018 experience. Come to the Grizzell library on Thursday, September 14 at 6:30 pm for a fun hour of Rick Steves, travel stories and testimony about this custom trip. It's a journey through Greece and Italy, back to the classical times with Dublin students and parents in the Global Scholars Program. Come meet those already enrolled and discover the 13-day itinerary, outlined at tinyurl.com/GreeceItaly2018. Contact hull_jim@dublinschools.net with any questions.

SCHOOLOGY PARENT ACCOUNTS
Dublin City Schools uses Schoology, a Learning Management System (LMS) for grades 6-12 in order to provide parents with streamlined academic communication, and teachers and students with a powerful instructional tool.

As a parent, you can create a Schoology Parent Account to view and access your child's Schoology information. To create this account, you will need a parent access code for each of your children. If you don't have this code, please email Laura Tucker, our Technology Support Teacher, at tucker_laura@dublinschools.net. She will be able to help you. If needed, you do have the ability to create multiple parent accounts using the same student access code. Once you have the access code, you can use this link for step-by-step instructions to create your account: www.dublinschools.net/schoology.aspx. Please Note: Schoology Parent Accounts and Schoology Student Accounts are separate accounts. The Parent Account is a view only account. Each student already has an account set up by the district.

INTERESTED IN A FALL SPORT FOR NEXT YEAR?
If your child is interested in a Fall sport next year, please note all sports will begin tryouts and/or practices during the week of July 30 - August 3 and continue throughout the season. Many times parents don’t realize this and schedule vacations, etc prior to the start of school. We want to be proactive in sharing these dates to avoid any potential athletes from missing tryouts or practices which in turn would be prohibitive to their participation.

FIRST CELTIC CONNECTIONS CLUB MEETING
Celtic Connections is a peer buddy club focused on providing social and leadership activities to Grizzell students with and without disabilities. We will be having our first meeting on Wednesday, September 13th at 7:45 in Miss. Mizok's room (7th grade wing rm. 252). Please encourage your child to join us if he/she would like to see what our club is all about and have an interest in helping their peers.
