INDIAN RUN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Hello, Indian Run Families!
We are writing to share some important information about the beginning of the school year. It is hard to believe school is almost ready to start again—the summer seems to have flown by! We can’t wait to welcome students back to Indian Run!
Let’s get straight to important back-to-school information. The first day of school is Wednesday, August 16. School times are the same as last year, with students arriving at 9 a.m. and class beginning at 9:10. Students are dismissed from school at 3:40 PM.
Update your child’s information on our Back-to-School portal
During the week of July 10th, you should have received a letter in the mail with instructions on how to update your information and fill our required forms using our new Back-to-School portal. All information must be updated before the first day of school. If you have not already done so, please visit this link: http://www.dublinschools.net/backtoschool.aspx
The week of August 7, you will receive an email from Dublin City Schools with your child’s teacher assignment. Please note that these emails are sent on a rolling basis to manage volume, so they will not all arrive at once.
New Student to Indian Run?
If your child is in 1-5 grade and are new to Indian Run, they are invited to join us on Wednesday, August 9 for a welcoming orientation and activity. If your child would like to attend, you may bring them to IRE at 9:00 and pick them up at 10:00 a.m.
**This does not apply to kindergarteners--see note below**
If you have a kindergarten student joining us this year, remember the first 2 days are “Phase-In days,” so your child will only attend ONE day the first 2 days. This allows us to acclimate kindergarteners to school in a smaller group setting. In mid-July, you should have received a letter indicating which day your child will attend. If not, please let us know.
Open House and Walkthrough Event
Our Open House/Walkthrough event will be held Tuesday, August 15. This year we are combining “Walkthrough” and our “Curriculum Night” (an event that was previously held the first few weeks of September) to give our families an enhanced experience by answering all of your questions and providing support--all at once!
If you cannot make it, don’t worry; we will be sure to communicate in other ways!

1:00-1:20- Student play; Parent/Teacher classroom meeting
4th and 5th grade
2:00-2:30- Open House
2:30-2:50- Student play; Parent/Teacher classroom meeting
Part 1: Open House Events
Hallway near library: Visit our PTO Executive Board/Make a donation
Library: Support with Back to School portal/completing Emergency Medical Forms
Commons: Transportation Questions/ management of student lunch accounts; opportunity to purchase an Indian Run Elementary T-shirt (Cost: $10)
Classroom: Children and parents meet the teacher
Part 2: Parent-Teacher Classroom Meeting
While students go to the playground to enjoy a popsicle and supervised play, parents will stay in the classroom to learn more about the year’s curriculum and classroom routines!
Additional Back-to-School Information:
Arrival and Dismissal
Bus route information will be available on the school website under “Parent Resources” on or around August 11. Be sure to check to find out what bus your child will ride and times for pickup and drop off. Bus drivers will also be available at Walkthrough to answer any questions you may have.
*Parents of kindergarteners will be notified by a personal phone call from the bus driver to clarify this information.
*To parents who drive their child to school or pick up at the end of the day: As in the past, this will occur in the back of the building (access via the entrance road to the Dublin Library). Please follow posted signs and watch for staff to help direct you!
If you ordered supplies last spring from our PTO sale, they will be taken directly to your child’s classroom—you will see them there during Walkthrough. If you did not order supplies, you can purchase them on your own. Supply lists are on our website.
Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO)
Speaking of PTO, we are always looking for involvement from parents to keep our PTO the strong and involved organization that it is. Our president this year is Jenny Rosanski (firstname.lastname@example.org) Please feel free to contact her if you have questions or would like to get involved. As mentioned above, we appreciate any financial donations to our PTO. As with last year, we will work to keep fundraising to a minimum, working solely through donations and our annual Walk-a-Thon.
We strive to communicate with you in countless ways. This year we will again communicate with you by emailing information as it comes up; we will also post information on the Indian Run website. If you are on Facebook, I encourage you to request membership to the group “Families of Indian Run,” which contains a lot of helpful information for you. (If you have a different Facebook profile name than that of your child, please indicate as much when you request joining the group.) We also use Twitter to update you on fun or interesting things that happen throughout the day; you can follow us at @ireDCSD. Follow district news and updates at @DublinSchools.
