4/20 Parent E-News

Dear parents:

It has been another exciting week at Dublin Jerome High School. And finally, as of last weekend, April had her baby. After a quick preview of the video, it is clear that I have no business watching the nuances of Mother Nature in action!

As we hit the interim point of the 4th quarter, please let us know if anything seems to be out of the ordinary on the home front. This is an extremely busy time of the year for students (both in school and out) and stress levels can elevate at times. If this might be the case, please reach out to your child's teachers, counselor, or administrator so we can join forces to help alleviate some of the pressure. Although a little hectic for all, we want the end of the year to go as smoothly as possible for all of our students.

Have a great weekend!

Dublin Jerome High School In The Know

Student Organizations:

Jerome has over 50 active clubs for students to select to participate in. There is a list located on our website http://www.dublinschools.net/djhsclubs.aspx for students to see their options and to find contact information for student leaders and club advisors. If students do not see a club in an area of interest, they are welcome to start their own. This requires finding a teacher to serve as advisor and then meeting with administration.

Free Peer Tutoring:

There is a list of peer tutors who have been trained to work with students in providing extra support in a variety of classes, homework help, or as a study buddy before a test or exam. Tutors volunteer their time and make themselves available to be contacted for a private appointment on Monday-Thursday in the library after school for an hour.

Message from Officer Collier

Senior tag season is once again upon us. Neither the Dublin Police Department nor the Dublin City Schools support or endorse the playing of this game. While most seniors, and many parents, see this as harmless fun, let's be clear: Senior tag can be a dangerous game with some serious life consequences. Several students in recent years have been involved in car crashes directly related to playing the game.

Some other potential legal consequences of playing the game are:

Public Indecency (ORC 2907.09)

Criminal Trespass (ORC 2911.21)

Disorderly Conduct (ORC 2917.11)

Obviously, not everyone who plays the game does it while breaking laws, but unfortunately some do. Please talk to your sons/daughters and make sure they are aware of the potential legal ramifications of their actions, and encourage them to obey all laws. While the camaraderie of playing a game like this is great, nobody wants to see anyone get hurt or injured while participating, nor do we want to see your son/daughter arrested for making a bad decision that could have been easily avoided. Please contact me if you have any questions, comments or concerns. 614-718-8286, ccolli[email protected] or collier_[email protected]

Volunteer for Community Service Day on May 6

Students and their families are invited to get involved in the community by volunteering at the Dublin Chamber of Commerce and Leadership Dublin Community Service Day on Saturday, May 6 from 8:30 a.m. to noon. On this day, volunteers assist area senior citizens, residents in need and local non-profit organizations with outdoor spring-clean up projects, such as weeding, mulching and planting flowers. Volunteers meet at the Dublin Community Recreation Center, 5600 Post Road in Dublin, to receive their clean-up location(s) and map.

Participants will receive a complimentary breakfast, lunch and a Community Service Day t-shirt (while supplies last). In addition, volunteer service hour forms will be signed at the event for students. Please note that all children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Anyone interested in volunteering is encouraged to register online at DublinChamber.org/CSD.
