Hello Sells families:

Happy Friday to everyone! We are halfway through the first quarter already! With this said, I encourage you all to be using Schoology to check your child's academic progress in each class. If you have yet to establish your Schoology parent account, I further encourage you to complete this as well. If you need help in understanding how to do this or if you need the access code for your child, please do not hesitate to contact us here at school and we will help you through the process.

As you are checking your child's academic progress, I challenge you to discuss their perspective of how they are progressing as a learner. Sometimes, students will share ideas with their parents that may not be shared with teachers. Our goal is to maintain a partnership with each of you as we guide our students through the learning process in each class. And any feedback that can be learned is helpful. We want each student to start their school year of with success during the first quarter.

I would like to remind parents who drop off their child in the morning and/or pick up in the afternoon to please be aware of student safety. We realize it can get congested with our limited space, but we do not want cars doubling-up and forming two lanes. Please maintain a single lane, following the one way in and out of the parking area near Door 12. Officer Q is focusing on monitoring this area and will provide assistance in moving cars along when needed. Thank you for your assistance in following this practice.

Please be sure to read through the specific information relevant to your child -- especially the 8th Grade Washington, D.C. Parent meeting and the information involving 6th Grade Camp.

ATTN: 8 Gr Parents --> DC TRIP INFORMATION – There will be parent meeting TUE, SEP 26, 7pm in the Commons. Please make plans on attending in order to hear about specific details of the trip and for us to answer any questions or concerns.

The Medical Permission Form and Responsibility Contract are due by FRI, OCT 13 (NO EXCEPTIONS). Please also keep in mind that both of these forms need to be notarized (so do not sign them prior to the notary witnessing you doing this). ATTN: 6 Gr Parents: Chromebook Information - By now, you and your student should have signed the Dublin City Schools Chromebook Loan Agreement Certification form, and returned it to your student’s Social Studies teacher. Our distribution date is FRI, SEP 29 for the chromebook and bag to each student. Our goal is to familiarize the students with the features in order to maximize the use of the devices starting the following week.

If your student has NOT returned a signed Loan Agreement Certification form, the chromebook will not be distributed. The district is asking that all students have a signed copy on file with the building.

Power of the Pen - The first meeting will be OCT 16, 3:15-4:00pm, in Room 124. Students should complete the Power of the Pen application, and submit it prior to the first meeting to either Mrs. Voss/Room 124 (voss_melissa@dublinschools.net)or Mrs. Polacek/Room 108 (polacek_rachel@dublinschools.net).

Chromebooks to be distributed in Grades 6 & 9 - In the coming days, Chromebooks will be distributed to all sixth and ninth graders. Visit http://www.dublinschools.net/OnetoOne.aspx to learn more about this technology initiative.

Holiday Assistance in December - Each year Adopt-a-Family matches local families experiencing a financial or medical crisis with volunteer sponsors from the community seeking to experience the joy of giving. Families receive gifts for their children and a grocery card for a holiday meal. If you are interested in holiday assistance, the deadline to let your school counselor know is OCT 19. Applications will NOT be handed out like in years past. The program is intended for families in a financial hardship Here is the description on our flyer: “Are you experiencing economic hardship such as: job loss, death of a family member, sudden move, divorce, health issues, or an unexpected emergency?”
