Next Week’s Related Arts Schedule:
This week first graders worked on identifying nouns, verbs and adjectives in a given passage. We talked about how verbs can have “shades of meaning” which means that some words can mean almost the same thing, but have very little difference. For example, walk, jog, and sprint have similar meanings with only a slight difference. We practiced this skill by arranging words from strongest to weakest.
This week, first graders chose an environment from the Columbus Zoo to research. We began a class research experiment to dive deep into our chosen exhibit. We are so excited for our upcoming field trip!
First graders continued to explore their study of fractions. Students worked in groups to create a fraction number line using ¼, ½ and 1/1. We shared our thinking and strategies while we compared number lines. On Thursday, kids reflected on how much they have learned about fractions in the last couple weeks. This was very exciting!
This week students continued to learn about maps. We created our own maps of a familiar place such as our classroom or playground. First graders did a great job of including important map features in their work such as a title, map key, symbols and compass rose. On Thursday, we used objects from the classroom to kick start our study of landforms. Students synergized to create all different types of landforms!
Thank you for your support! Have a wonderful weekend!
