1st Grade

August 18-25, 2017

Dear Parents,

We had a great first week in first grade! I am sure your little ones came home exhausted each day. That is very common for the first few weeks. They work hard all day at school!

Please mark your calendars for Wednesday August 30 at 6:00-6:45 for curriculum night. First grade will all meet together in the gym. This is the time to get all your questions about the first grade year answered. This evening is for adults only so please make arrangements for your children.

If you have not yet returned the yellow student interest survey or the blue information card that you received at the walkthrough please turn those in on Monday.

Each child will need a pair of headphones as soon as possible. If you could send in a pair it would be appreciated. We will use them daily.

Our rooms tend to be cold and the children are asking to put on jackets and sweatshirts. Please feel free to send one in to leave in your child's locker.

If your child is going to be absent you may now call the new direct attendance line at 614-718-8688. This will make reporting absences quicker and easier for you!

Next week we will begin individual reading and spelling assessments. We will be reviewing the letters/sounds Bb-Ff. We will discuss and share what good readers do. We will also be reviewing the sight words: play, and, like, had, went, can, class & lead. Please practice reading and writing those at home. In math, we are learning about the workshop model and practicing number activities. We will be learning how to be a good citizen/friend in social studies. We will have our first Leader in Me Town Hall meeting on Friday.

Week of August 21-25:
