My name is Jennifer Gilbert and I am proud to be Chapman’s School Counselor! A little bit about me: This is my 5th year as your child’s school counselor, prior to this role I was a classroom teacher in Dublin. The Dublin City School Elementary Guidance Program is designed to promote and support social, emotional, and academic needs of students.

 
What does a School Counselor Do?

Advocates for the all students.

Works with teachers & parents to provide helpful suggestions & support for children’s needs.

Teaches whole class lessons that are preventative in design.

Brings students together in small groups to work together on a variety of topics and skills. (ex: social skills, grief, family changes, stress/anxiety, self-esteem, friendship, flexible thinking)

Helps in identifying academic and social/emotional needs of children.

Helps children understand themselves and others.

Help students develop decision-making and problem solving skills.

Provides information about community resources that would benefit children.

Provides parents with resources and information.

Adheres to the ASCA Ethical Standards for School Counselors.

Provides a comprehensive school counseling program driven by needs, data, and best practices.

Provides support to the school community.

The School Counselor keeps information confidential unless disclosure is required and will inform parents and/or appropriate authorities when the student’s condition indicates:
